The Payroll Manager will own our Canadian payroll function while supporting our PEO in processing US payroll. This role will report to the Sr. Director of finance and will work closely with the broader Finance team and in collaboration with our People Operations team. The Payroll Manager is accountable for the entire payroll administration and month-end processes, ensuring compliance with Canadian Payroll Legislation.

The Opportunity

  • Own end-to-end payroll operations including compliance, payroll onboarding, status changes, leave management (pregnancy, parental, disability etc.) and offboarding
  • Process payroll for hourly and salaried employees across Canada on a semi-monthly basis using Payworks
  • Support our PEO in processing payroll for our US hourly and salaried employees on a semi-monthly basis
  • Respond to any CRA equivalent inquiries/audits.
  • Manage and organize shared Payroll inbox
  • Address employee questions concerning pay and payroll deductionsIssue ROEs
  • Complete monthly benefits reconciliations to ensure deductions are correctly reflected in our payroll system
  • Prepare quarterly and annual employer tax reporting across various jurisdictions and own registration process for new province tax compliance (ie: Worker's Compensation, Employer Health Tax)
  • Own the year-end process including balancing, reconciling and preparing year-end adjustments for T4s and support in a similar process for W2s
  • Develop strong relationships with payroll providers to quickly troubleshoot issues, perform special pay runs and other time-sensitive transactions
  • Provide support for the Finance team to enter payroll journal entries
  • Work with other departments to provide monthly payroll reporting
  • Prepare applicable company-wide communications around payroll changes as they occur
  • Ongoing process improvement in collaboration with other departments

  • Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in a Payroll Manager/Specialist role
  • Payroll experience: Full cycle Canadian payroll experience with US exposure as an asset
  • Payroll designation: National Payroll Institute Certification (PCP or PLP) *previously Canadian Payroll Association
  • Experience using Payworks, Netsuite, Hibob and Sling as an asset
  • Experience with a Payroll system conversion
